Congratulations to Year 13 student Chris Arbuthnott, who has returned from the 2016 New Zealand Open Swimming Championships with six Gold medals.  Chris was entered into seven events and swam a total of 13 races.  Unfortunately, he had to withdraw from the 200m individual medley final due to injury.  Perhaps more important than picking up six Gold medals, Chris made significant improvements in his personal best times.

Celebrating his success is perhaps a little difficult for Chris as his main goal, to swim a qualifying time for Rio 2016 in the 50m freestyle, eluded him by 22 one hundredths of a second.

Chris’ next opportunity to swim a qualifying time is at an international meet in Berlin in June.  Prior to this, Chris will be part of the Para Team who are training in Majorca, Spain in late May.

We wish Chris all the best for his training and hope that his dedication, commitment and hard work allow him to realise his dreams.
