Year 13 student Chris Arbuthnott departs today to chase his dream – representing New Zealand at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. Over the last twelve months Chris has endured a grueling training regime – nine sessions a week in the pool as well as two gym sessions – in order to give himself every chance of making his dream a reality. He is currently just twenty two one hundredths of a second off the qualifying time that he needs to swim.
Chris will first journey to the Czech Republic to complete his preparation before travelling to Berlin to race. The competition there will be his final opportunity to swim a qualifying time for Rio.
We wish Chris all the best as he sets out to gain qualification; he is the embodiment of our school motto – Nihil Boni Sine Labore – Nothing Achieved Without Hard Work.
