Matariki Celebrations
Matariki is a celebration of people, culture, language, spirituality and history. Matariki was celebrated last night at our Maori/Pasifika Whanau Hui/Fono. An amazing array of performances were shared with us by the boys, reflecting the true talents of our students here at Ngā Tamatāne o Te Papaoeia.
• ngā waiata (song)
• ngā haka (dance)
• ngā taonga puoro (music)
• ngā mau rakau (traditional Māori weapons)
• ngā taonga-o-wharawhara (cultural adornment)
• ngā kōrero (storytelling)
As well as the Matariki celebration, we also had representatives from Massey and Victoria Universities who gave a short presentation for our whānau about university life and continuing education. Earlier in the day the universities spoke directly with the boys.
