Congratulations to Year 13 student Jordan Hape who has been named as the Palmerston North Boys’ High School Te Manawa Young Artist in Residence for 2016. Jordan will be working once a week in the museum learning about exhibition management, the role of the museum and art gallery in society as well as an in depth study of the current Freda Kahlo exhibition. As a tangible outcome of his residency, Jordan will be producing a photographic essay on social justice in the Manawatu. Should this project be of sufficient standard, it will go on exhibition at the museum.

Jordan has a passion for photography, something that has developed since he first studied the subject at NCEA Level Two as a Year 12 student.  He decided to take a visual art subject as a contrast to his other subjects and has really enjoyed the scope it has provided him to express himself.  Jordan is really looking forward to the opportunities that he will have as the Young Artist in Residence, although admits there will be some challenges as “It’s easy to take photographs.  But, finding the right ones that tell a story can be difficult.”
