MATCH REPORT – 1ST XI CRICKET VS AUCKLAND GRAMMAR SCHOOL – DAY 1 – 06/03/17

Hosting AGS for the annual 3-day fixture on the number 1 field, PNBHS won the toss and chose to bat. The batsmen started positively, with good running between the wickets interspersed with some well-hit boundaries. Unfortunately, the 1st XI lost wickets in clumps and it was left to number 9 James Stratton to give the innings some respectability with an aggressive 57 from 49 balls. He was joined by Caleb Hansen (35) and Tom Tremain (27) with significant scores as the team finished their first innings on 182 all out.

The bowlers started well, but then tended to bowl too short to be effective, with Jack Harris picking up one wicket before tea. After tea, the bowling improved in line and length and inroads were made, with wickets falling and the run rate dropping. Bryn Wilson took 3 for 19 from 7 to have the visitors 84 for 4 from 35 overs at the end of the first day.

Honours just about even then. Play starts at 10:30 AM on Tuesday 7 March.
