PNBHS 2nd XV vs Manukura 1st XV - Match Report - Wednesday 31 May

The 2nd XV headed to the Arena in Palmerston North to play the Manukura 1st XV following the rearranged fixture due to the clash with Gisborne. This was potentially a clash between the top two sides in the competition and so a tough battle was in the offing.

The PNBHS forwards came out fizzing. This is becoming the norm for the forward pack now and they took the game to the Manukura pack. Some excellent carries and aggressive work at the breakdown laid the platform for the backs to move the ball. An early penalty put PNBHS up 3-0 and in the ascendency. The forwards got on top and PNBHS were held up a couple of times which kept Manukura in the game.

Undeterred, the PNBHS forwards stuck to their work and after a series of good carries space was created out wide for Korie Winters to dot down. Straight from the kick off PNBHS went back on attack and after some strong carries the ball was shifted to Korie again who showed excellent speed to score his second. Half time 15-0.

As expected Manukura came out firing. The breakdown became very physical as Manukura looked to disrupt the Boys' High ball. PNBHS weathered the storm led by some fantastic defence. A turnover in midfield gave Manukura a chance and an excellent kick through saw them score and reduce the deficit to 15-7.

With their tails up now, Manukura kept coming. They put lots of width on the ball and challenged the Boys' High defence. The PNBHS players showed great heart and endeavour to close them down and see out the game.

A superb effort and commitment by the boys.

Final score 15-7
