Super 8 Basketball Tournament 2017

Super 8 Basketball 2017 was held at Tui Ridge Park just outside Rotorua, a complex that sleeps 240 people and also has 3 basketball courts.

Seeded in pool A, PNBHS beat Hamilton Boys' 88 - 60, Napier Boys' 103 - 61 and Rotorua Boys' 100 - 52 to finish top of their pool.

The Prem A then played New Plymouth Boys' in the semi final and beat them 86 - 44 to set up a final with Hamilton Boys' who surprisingly beat Hastings Boys' in the other semi final.

Hamilton came out firing during the first quarter and PNBHS were not used to that pressure. Up 23 - 14 at 1/4 time, Hamilton came back 23 - 16 in the 2nd quarter to make it a 2 point ball game at half time.

Ex-Talk Black, Paora Winitana, spoke at the Super 8 Basketball dinner about the principles of leadership. They are 1) subject knowledge 2) applied knowledge is power and 3) surround yourself with good people that will help you on your journey through life.

The 2017 Prem A team have embraced this message during the Super 8 Tournament. They had scouted the opposition well and knew their strengths and weaknesses.

PNBHS kept their composure and applied pressure when it counted. Rangimarie Mita scored 2 x three point shots at the end of the 3rd quarter to give PNBHS a 64 - 57 lead with 1 quarter remaining.

Hamilton had to foul and eventually some of their key players fouled out. Final score was a 92 - 75 win.

Oscar Oswald top scored with 23 points, Rangimarie Mita scored 17 and Callum McRae 16 points.
