Year 13 Geography Field Trip

Rotorua

16 - 18 August, 2017

In Week 4 of this term,  the Year 13 Geographers went on their annual trip to Rotorua to look at tourism development there. This trip is designed to reinforce the concepts taught in the Cultural Processes external exam paper. By attending the trip, students gain a really good insight into the huge tourism industry in Rotorua, enabling them to clearly understand and respond to the questions asked of them in the external NCEA exam. The trip is always a highlight and included visits and speakers at the Rotorua Museum, Rainbow Springs, The Agrodome, Tamaki Maori Village (and hangi dinner where our students again excelled in performing the school haka), Kuirau Thermal Park, Skyline Rides and the Luge. As well as gaining valuable information to reinforce their assessment requirements, this trip was a chance for students to gain valuable insight into possible career paths in the tourism industry – now the biggest single industry in New Zealand. In addition, a lot of fun was had by all – a good finale to the variety of field trips the Geography students have been involved in since Year 11.
