1ST XI CRICKET VS AUCKLAND GRAMMAR

11 - 13 MARCH

AUCKLAND

DAY 1

After arriving in Auckland, Captain Bryn Wilson promptly won the toss and decided to bat first. The innings started briskly but unfortunately, a run out in the 5th over set the team back. This, and some accurate bowling and fielding by the Grammar boys, made run scoring difficult and the batsmen were made to work hard for every run. The game ebbed and flowed but the nature of the wicket made it difficult for any batsmen to score freely and every time a partnership was due to blossom, a wicket fell. PNBHS battled hard for 76 overs but were eventually dismissed for 139. Top scorer was Ruben Love with 29. He was well-supported by Curtis Heaphy with 26.

Needing to make early inroads into the batting, the 1st XI bowlers opened with a fiery spell. With spirited support from the field, they managed to snaffle 4 wickets in the space of 12 overs. The support bowlers then continued the good work, taking a further 2 wickets before the close of the first day's play to have Auckland Grammar in a spot of bother with the score at 39 for 6. Mitch Leach took 2 for 20, Thomas Kirk 2 for 14 and Rishabh De 2 for 2.

DAY 2

The second day started with a gloomy aspect and the prospect of ex-tropical-cyclone Hola racing in from the north. The Boys' high opening bowlers' performance matched this as they bowled a hodgepodge of deliveries, allowing the Grammar batsmen easy scoring opportunities. A couple of bowling changes had the desired effect and PNBHS managed to wrest some control back before rain interrupted play with the opposition on 77 for 6. Unfortunately, the rain set in for the day and play was abandoned at 4pm.
