NZCT Junior Cricket National Tournament

Day 2 (Tuesday 20 March) v King's High School

PNBHS played their second NZCT game against King’s High School from the Otago region. Boys' High won the toss and elected to bat. The top order created a stable base with Jaiden Meyer and Curtis Heaphy combining to put on 93 runs for the third wicket. The rest of the batting order may have taken the coaches suggestions to find the boundary a little too literally as the boys recklessly attempted unsuccessfully to get quick runs at the end of the innings. Jaiden Meyer made a brilliant 90 and Curtis Heaphy backed up his previous unbeaten 88 with 53.

204 was a good score but the team were aware they would need to bowl well. George Simpson took the first two wickets and King’s High School were 3-28 before a partnership developed. The boys stayed patient and when the fourth wicket fell at 82 it created a collapse with King’s High School all out for 132. All the PNBHS bowlers were accurate and made scoring difficult. Michael Watkins ended up with 3-22 and Jonty Fleck with 2-5. A 73 run win looks a comfortable result, but the boys had to push really hard and with three more games still to play will need to be at their best to continue their winning run.
