A small but strong team went away to the track cycling nationals in Cambridge last week. This was the first time a nationals for secondary school riders had been run by Cycling New Zealand.  Competitors had to compete in three different events, with points award after each event to eventually find the overall winner.

In the Under 20’s division, Angus Claasen was the overall winner. Angus was the winner of the Kerin, Points Race and Scratch Race. This was a very dominant display by Angus.

In the Under 17’s, Michael Richmond finished 2nd overall. Michael won the Points Race and was 2nd in the Kerin.

In the Under 16’s, Ben Irvine was 2nd and Ewan Cousin was 3rd overall.

In the Under 15’s, Chenuka Rajapakse was 3rd overall.

Alongside the individual events the school also entered teams in the Junior and Senior Sprints and a Senior Pursuit team.  Our Senior Sprint team of Angus Claasen, Michael Richmond and Cam Jones were placed 1st.  In the Senior Pursuit competition our team of Angus Claasen, Michael Richmond, Cam Jones and Ben Irvine were placed 3rd.  Our Junior Sprint team of Jack Carson, Ben Irvine and Chenuka Rajapakse finished second.
