Prem A Basketball vs Unity Game 5

In the first game of the Wednesday night Premier Men's Basketball Competition, PNBHS played Unity. Unity were stronger than last year with recent old boys Hamish Bissell, Trent Smith and Nikau Tangaroa playing for them. The Prem A got out to a comfortable lead early on and the plan was to play at a very fast pace to tire Unity and go on to win comfortably as Unity got tired. Unfortunately, Unity had other ideas about how the game would play out. Unity played hard and fast and put PNBHS under pressure, so much so that points were hard to come by. Unity took a comfortable lead into the major break.

Coach McTamney called for patience and a fight back at the end of the 3rd quarter brought the score to within 15 points. Jake McKinlay scored from out wide on full time to make it 70 - 70 and take the game in to extra time. The Prem A went on to win 80 - 76.

The Prem A will need to work on their shooting if they want to be competitive in this grade as there are fewer teams this year but the quality of the teams is the best it has been for several years.
