It was fantastic to welcome Old Boy Mr Shay Ashworth to the Prefect's assembly this morning. Mr Ashworth attended PNBHS and College House between 2005 and 2009. Upon completing his secondary schooling he attended Lincoln University and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Agriculture) degree, majoring in Farm Management and minoring in Soil Science. After working briefly as a Stock Agent in Canterbury, Mr Ashworth joined ASB bank through their graduate programme and is now a Rural Banker. Today he shared information about his career pathway and the many varied career opportunities in the banking industry. Alongside this information Mr Ashworth shared some 'life lessons' that he has learned through his study and career:

- Hard work is important - people recognise and reward hard work. Anything that is worth succeeding in requires hard work and commitment.
- Relationships are really important. Respecting and being able to relate to varied groups of people is a key ingredient for success - "You need to be as comfortable having a beer with the shearers at the end of the day as you would be sitting down to dinner with the Queen."
- Be open to new opportunities and willing to learn new things.
- Having hobbies, sport and interests outside of work that you are passionate about is really important.

Thank you to Mr Ashworth for his time today and for sharing his ideas and experiences with our young men.
