After winning the toss, PNBHS had no hesitation in taking the field to bowl on a pitch which had some damp spots from the previous night’s rain. The opening bowlers were disciplined and gave the Marist batsmen very little in an effective opening spell. The opposition made slow progress and when the 3rd wicket fell in the 31st over, the score was a mere 90. This, unfortunately, was when the 1st XI players lost a little concentration in the field and there followed a period when a number of costly catches were put down. The players did, however, rally and tightened up in the final 10 overs to keep Marist to 195 for 6 from their allotted 50. Thomas Kirk was the most successful bowler, with 3 for 43.

The PNBHS top order made a solid start, facing an attack heavily laced with disciplined spin bowling. They combatted this tactic by running well between the wickets and taking toll of the odd loose delivery. When the 3rd wicket fell in the 44th over, with the score on 148, it was obvious that some acceleration was needed. A further 3 wickets fell as the 1st XI batsmen tried to be creative but the crunch came when, needing 15 from the last 2 overs, Bryn Wilson hit a towering 6 over the mid-wicket boundary. This left the team needing 6 off the last over. Intelligent running between Bryn and Sam Russell relieved the tension and a 4 off the last ball clinched the victory for PNBHS. Bryn Wilson scored 43 not out, Curtis Heaphy made 58 and Craig Lawrence 60 as the 1st XI won by 4 wickets.
