3rd XI Cricket v Dannevirke Sports Club

The 3rd XI Cricket team travelled over the ranges to play the Dannevirke Sports Club. After losing the toss and being asked to bowl, the screws were tightened and runs were hard to come by. Left-arm chinaman Michael Watkins opened the bowling, only giving away 7 runs from his 8 overs. He was also unlucky not to pick up a couple of wickets as the 3rds struggled to hold their catches. Dannevirke had only a managed 34 at the 20 over drinks break but hadn’t yet lost a wicket. That was to change when Gap student James Black was introduced. Bowling left-arm orthodox, he was able to take 6-25 off his 8 overs. Dannevirke batted the 40 overs scoring 95-8. The 3rd XI openers made a fast start but lost a few quick wickets. At 60 for 3 off 12 overs, the target never looked in doubt as Jonty Fleck and Jaiden Meyer knocked off the required runs after 17.5 overs. Jaiden Meyer 24 not out and Jonty Fleck 22 not out. A 7 wicket win with 22 overs to spare.
