Junior Invitational Cricket Tournament | Hawke's Bay

Year 9 Specials Cricket v Hastings Boys’ High School - Thursday 29 November

PNBHS last game of the Hawkes Bay tournament was a 35 over match.  Hastings, batting first, were immediately under pressure with the loss of three early wickets.  A 60 run fourth wicket partnership had Hastings well placed, but Aadesh Ganugapati was able to remove Hastings’ key batsmen.  This sparked a middle order collapse, but the tail was able to wag enough for Hastings to score a defendable 142 all out.  Fred McVerry was the pick of the bowlers taking 4-17 off 6 overs.

PNBHS were immediately placed under pressure in their chase with the fall of two wickets in the first over.  At the drinks break PNBHS had recovered to be 55/4 giving themselves a chance, but too many batsmen were guilty of trying to play big shots early in their innings meaning PNBHS crashed to their only loss in the tournament making 70 all out.  Jaiden Meyer was the only PNBHS batsmen to reach double figures.

A disappointing loss by 72 runs, but hopefully a number of lessons will be learned by the team.
