Day 1 - PNBHS 1st XI VS Gisborne Boys’ High School 1st XI - 28/01/19
Having lost the toss and been asked to field first, PNBHS soon had Gisborne in trouble with wickets from the first and fourth balls of the second over. This started the rot and with the 1stXI bowlers applying the blowtorch, there was a procession to and from the crease as the opposition batsmen tried to put up some resistance. The change bowlers provided no relief and, if anything, were more accurate and demanding than their predecessors. Gisborne eventually succumbed for 60 in the 31stover. Levi Woolston took 2 for 5, Josh West 3 for 20 and Hugo Wakeling 3 for 11.
Chasing a low total, the PNBHS opening batsmen made a positive start, with some good running between the wickets. This was followed by some good strokeplay by numbers 3 and 4 as Boys’ High passed the total in the 11thover with 2 wickets down to win by 8 wickets. Ruben Love made 29 not out.
A more serious challenge is expected for tomorrow, facing Tauranga Boys’ on their home track.
