From the Deputy Head Prefect, John Cole:

A warm welcome to the returning students, new students and whānau and friends of the school community. As the Deputy Head Prefect and a part of the 117th student leadership group of Palmerston North Boys High School, I want to ensure that Palmy Boys, and the accompanying hostel – College House – remain a destination sought after nationally for its plethora of opportunity, excellence in all areas and world-class leadership programme. Students should be able to pursue their interests, live in an environment of genuine students and supportive teachers and gain an education that will put them in good stead for the workplace of the future.

At the end of student’s education at Palmy Boys they should be empowered to grasp opportunities as they present themselves, articulate excellence through expansive involvement and hard work and to leave the gates as men of outstanding character that will carry our communities high into the future. Palmy Boys should continue to be a school that relishes a challenge, rewards success and demands diligence and hard work to achieve at the highest level. But it should also continue to be a platform for peer encouragement, student comradery and an accomplished sense of pride in the trials, tribulations and successes of our former brothers – for we use this tradition and history as a handrail to ground us as we carve a new chapter in Palmy Boys history.

I am excited to work with Ethan, the prefects and staff of the school to make sure 2019 is a memorable year in the school’s history – characterised by excellence, involvement and the distinguished character of the young men of the school.

No reira, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā tatou katoa. Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou!
