Christchurch Terror Attack

At assembly this morning we were proud to have Dr Zulfiqar Butt, President of the Manawatu Muslim Association, join us so that we as a school community could express our sympathy and show our support for the Muslim community throughout New Zealand.

The events in Christchurch have affected many young men and families in our community.  Our Guidance Counsellors, Mr. Pottinger and Mr. Dawson, are available to help any young men who might need additional support.  We encourage our parent community to ensure that they have spoken to their sons about the terror attacks.  There are large numbers of young men who have seen images of the attacks online and the impacts of this are likely to become obvious in the coming days.

In his discussion of the Friday terror attack the Rector, Mr Bovey, shared a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King which is very apt at this time: “Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”  Our thoughts are with the Muslim community at this terribly sad time.
