PNBHS 2nd XV vs New Plymouth BHS - Thursday 20 June

The 2nd XV welcomed New Plymouth for the fourth round of the Super Eight campaign buoyed by the victory over Hamilton and confident of maintaining their impressive run of form. Unfortunately, a poor start saw a mis-read in defence which allowed New Plymouth to score from distance for an early lead.

PNBHS responded and the forwards began to carry strongly. After a series of pick & go’s, Soane Fakahau touched down to level the scores. PNBHS began to take control over the game and just as it looked as though they had created space, a pass was intercepted for a second long range try for New Plymouth.

PNBHS kept their composure and some good play between the forwards and the backs saw Reif Dawson score to level before a quick lineout and some good interplay from James Cameron and Reif Dawson saw Reif in for his second.

The second half started positively with Piutau Halafa’u latching on to an inside ball from Carson Hepi and rampaging 30m to extend the lead. New Plymouth responded well and threatened the PNBHS line. Some outstanding defence led by Sam Simpson held them at bay before the weight of possession told and New Plymouth scored to reduce the deficit.

PNBHS comfortably saw out the remaining couple of minutes to secure a hard fought 24-17 victory and maintain their momentum heading into their fixture with Cullinane 1st XV on Saturday.

Scorers:

Tries: Soane Fakahau, Reif Dawson (2), Piutau Halafa’u

Conversions: Reif Dawson (2)
