In the Under 16 team time trial, the results were encouraging considering a large number of riders had been sick in the lead-up or were still sick on the day. There will be a real strength in the teams next year as the majority of riders still allegeable to ride in this grade again.

In the Under 20’s team time, the school showed its strength with a powerful performance from all teams. Gaining three top ten spots was an outstanding achievement. The Senior A team consisting of Ethan Craine, Max Taylor, Jack Pronk, Jamie Dennis and Aiden Jones gained a silver medal. This was an outstanding achievement considering Ethan experienced a flat tyre with 4 km remaining in the race. Ethan demonstrated a determination to complete the race with a flat tyre and the team were extremely pleased as they finished only 13 seconds behind winners, Auckland Grammar.

Josh Mulcahy and Liam Ainsworth were the schools only podium finishes during the criterium races. However there we a number of our riders throughout all grades that had strong performances.

Overall, the weekend was extremely encouraging for the cycling team. A large number of Year 9 riders gained a massive experience through competing at a national level and this will give them motivation in their training to improve towards nationals. The setbacks and successes experienced were all character-building opportunities and we look forward to nationals at the end of term 3 on our home turf.
