Congratulations to Year 13 student Matthew McEwen who recently qualified for the eSports – GT World Tour at the Tokyo Motor Show as the top Chevrolet driver in Oceania. Qualification for this event allows eligible drivers to accept an expense paid trip to Tokyo to compete in an invite-only international eSports event.

Gran Turismo Sport is a driving simulation game with over 7 million total players, and over 10,000 players registered to compete in the online Manufacturers Series and Nations Cup championships. The online driving competition is an official FIA sanctioned event and the season consists of multiple rounds, with drivers trying to qualify for 5 World Tour events each season. For each World Tour event, the top 12 manufacturers worldwide (Chevrolet currently 12th) will each send 3 drivers to these exclusive invite-only competitions alongside the Nations Cup participants.

Matthew is one of these 36 drivers who qualified worldwide to compete at the next event in Tokyo and will be traveling in late October to participate. Matthew also qualifies for the GT World Finals event in Monaco later in the year.
