Cricket report – 1st XI Prem A T20 competition – 03/11/2019

Game 1 VS Marist CC

Marist opted to bat in the first game of the season on grass. They started brightly thanks to some wayward bowling and below-par fielding and advanced to 80 for 3 from 10 overs. The introduction of spin curbed the scoring and wickets started to fall as the batsmen tried to hit out. The fielding also improved and the 1st XI was able to limit Marist to 122 all out in 19.3 overs. Mr Davidson took 2 for 27 and Jack Wenham 3 for 15.

The PNBHS reply was steady and the batsmen were rarely troubled, keeping up with the required rate due to good shot selection and sharp running between the wickets. Levi Woolston started well with 23, allowing Logan Love (25 NO) and Mr Davidson (44 NO) finish the chase as the team scored 124 for 4 to win in 19.1 overs.

Game 2 VS Palmerston CC

Palmerston won the toss and elected to bat in the second game of the day. Once again inaccurate bowling and very average fielding allowed the opposition to get away to a strong start. This trend continued as PNBHS allowed Palmerston to advance to a competitive total of 147 for 6 in their 20 overs. Levi Woolston took 2 for 32, Angus lyver 2 for 19 and Thomas Kirk 2 for 12.

The chase started inauspiciously with an early wicket, but a 2nd wicket partnership of 52 in 6 overs went some way to set the team back on track. The fall of the 3rd wicket for 68 in the 9th over brought Ruben Love to the wicket in a belligerent mood. He then proceeded to plunder the bowling in a sparkling innings of 72 from 26 balls, including 6 sixes. Taking the team to the winning total of 149 for 3 in the 16th over. Henry Deans scored 36.
