CRICKET REPORT: PNBHS 1ST XI VS UNITED CC – 09/11/19
Having won the toss and elected to bat first, United’s classy batting line-up proceeded to pile on the pressure (and the runs), racing to 109 in the 17th over before the first wicket fell. The PNBHS bowlers didn’t bowl particularly badly but anything slightly off was severely dealt to. A soporific effort in the field and 19 wides did not help the cause either. Nevertheless, the 1st XI stuck to the task and were able to snag some late wickets and slow the scoring, limiting the damage to 283 for 9 in the allotted 50 overs. Thomas Kirk took 2 for 54 and Josh West 2 for 52.
Chasing a sizeable score would require a fast start. Unfortunately, this did not eventuate as the United bowlers managed to frustrate the Boys’ High batsmen with accurate bowling. The pressure soon told, and wickets fell at regular intervals as the 1st XI were given a lesson in 1-day cricket. Curtis Heaphy stuck around for 38 and Mr Davidson’s late flourish had him on 77 not out a PNBHS finished on 176 for 8. A comprehensive loss then, but hopefully the team learnt from the experience.
