JUNIOR QUADRANGULAR - NEW PLYMOUTH

Last week the Junior Tennis team went to New Plymouth to play in the annual quadrangular, a competition that has been running since 2005.

Team:  Henry Manktelow,  Cory Pinfold-Whanga,  Johnny Wilkshire and Felix Shaw

Missing our two top players due to Year 10 camps, it was always going to be a struggle.  At number one, Henry Manktelow (Year 9) played against players three ranks higher than him.  All coaches complemented him on his attitude and effort, pushing his opponents throughout all three matches.

The team lost to the top two seed, Tauranga Boys' College and New Plymouth Boys’ High School, on the opening day (Thursday 28 Nov).  All played well but were clearly outmatched by higher ranked opponents.

On Friday (29 Nov), the team played Napier Boys’ High School. Cory and Johnny had good wins to go into the doubles 2 all.  The team lost top doubles easily, with the high ranked number one from Napier having too big an influence.  Bottom doubles were a much closer affair, but Napier proved too strong.

Well done to the team, playing with good spirit despite being outranked in most matches.
