PNBHS 1st XI Cricket vs Marist CC – 15/02/20 – Day 1 of 2

Having lost the toss and been asked to bowl first, the 1st XI did not make a good start. The bowlers missed their lengths and the fielding and catching was not the best. This allowed the Marist opening batsmen to settle in and, while they rode their luck, they punished any mistakes to go to lunch at 159 without loss. The lunch break allowed the Boys’ High players to renew their energy and soon after, both opening batsmen fell. The bowlers found their range and the fielders backed them up to starve the opposition, forcing them into rash shots and picking up wickets regularly. The PNBHS players toiled in the heat for 76 overs to have Marist all out for 282. Angus Lyver knocked the top off with 2 for 59, Mr Davidson took 2 for 52, Regan Fleming 2 for 40 and Jonty Fleck was miserly with 3 for 41.

The 1st XI openers then had to face 20 torrid overs at the end of a long, hot day. They battled manfully but unfortunately, both fell just before the end of play, leaving PNBHS on 25 for 2 and a lot to do next Saturday.
