REPORT:

Super 8 Golf hosted by Hamilton BHS:

Beautiful weather opened the first of 3 rounds of golf at St Andrew’s Golf Club in Hamilton on Monday. The A and B teams were scheduled for 3 rounds of golf, the A team competition decided by the 3 lowest scores per round and the B team best 3 stableford scores per round.

After the first round, the A team held a narrow one-shot lead over Rotorua BHS, captain Cameron Giddens leading the way with a 75, his brother Kieran a 78 and Remy Early an 80. The B Team were solid, Jackson Dreliozis with 39 points, Isaac Grant 27 and Fred McVerry 26 leaving them in 4th place.

The 2nd round was decisive for the A team, Kieran Giddens leading the way with 73, Cameron and Remy both 76s to leave us 6 shots clear of Rotorua and 10 from Hamilton. The B team were once again led by Jackson Dreliozis with 36 points, Jack Clarke 35 and Isaac Grant 23 the counting scores. The B team were 10 points behind the 3rd place Tauranga and hopeful of catching them on Tuesday’s round.

The final round was once again in beautiful conditions. The B team all struggled in the hot conditions, Year 9 student Jack Clarke was the best with 31 points, Jackson Dreliozis 29 and Isaac Grant 27. The B team finished a solid 4th place. In the A division all the team made solid starts with Cameron Giddens 1 under, Kaleb Fagan 5 over, Remy Early 4 over and Kieran Giddens also 5 over at the 11th hole. All 4 of the team leaked shots coming home leaving a nervous wait to see if Hamilton or Rotorua had shot some low scores. Cameron was once again solid hitting a one over 73 and finishing 2nd overall in the individual. Remy Early was consistent hitting a 6 over 78 (finishing 10th) and year 9 student Kaleb Fagan had his first counting score of 80. His improvement has been amazing, his first round 100, 2nd round 89 and the 3rd round a very impressive 80. Kieran Giddens finished 8th overall and had a non-scoring 81 on the final day. The PNBHS A team was far too consistent, extending their lead of 10 shots to 12 and winning Super 8 Golf for the 3rd time in 6 years.
