PNBHS Colts v Rathkeale Colts on Friday at PNBHS
This was the first qualifying match for the NZCT National Colts Cricket Knockout Tournament which only involves Year 9 and 10 students.
PNBHS were sent into bat by Rathkeale. The top order performed well and at 102/3 PNBHS were in a good position to set a big target. Unfortunately, a middle order collapse left PNBHS teetering at 136/8. Fortunately, Tom Collier batting at number 10, was able to add a run a ball 20 at the end of the innings getting the side up to a respectable 175 all out. Jacob Duker was the top scorer with 31.
In reply, Rathkeale were put under immediate pressure with Riveen taking 2 wickets in the first over. Matthew Rowe followed that with a wicket in the 2nd over and when Riveen took another wicket in the 3rd over, it meant the total was 8/4 and the contest was effectively over. There was no respite for Rathkeale when the change bowlers were introduced as left arm spinner TomCollier took 4 wickets and Ethan Campbell 2 as Rathkeale ended with a total of 42 all out. A win to PNBHS by 94 runs.
PNBHS’ next opponent in qualifying will be the Hawke's Bay schools winner.
