Mau raakau trip to Waiouru

The mau raakau students and whaanau travelled to Waiouru in search for their own raakau (fighting stick) as part of their requirement to enter into the Maori weaponry programme here at PNBHS under the umbrella of Te Whare Tuu Taua o Aotearoa. The purpose of the haerenga (trip) was to learn about the importance of upholding tradition, re-connecting with the land and it's surroundings, to have a spiritual experience and also the importance of how to use their raakau for protecting aswell as healing. The students were privledged to be able to cut their own raakau (native wood).

Ngā mihi ki a Tūwharetoa, ki a Ngāti Patutokotoko. Ngā whare tapu o te waoku. Kaore arikarika hoki ngā mihi ki a matua Nate me oona whakamahukitanga.
We have made a start of our journey.
Mauri ora ki te kaupapa.
