Rector Mr Bovey often talks to our young men about the traditions of the school and this morning at assembly he spoke about how this year marks 100 years since Palmerston North High School became Palmerston North Boys’ High School.

Up until 1928 the Palmerstonian was published half-yearly, in May and October,  and Mr Bovey read an excerpt from the May 1920 Palmerstonian:  "With this, the first number of a new volume, we leave behind another milestone in the history of the School. Just ten years ago, on that eventful evening of April 5th, 1910, the old wooden building, so dear to former generations, sank in dust and ashes. The following February saw the opening of the new School, which for the past decade has striven to accommodate the fast-increasing company of boys and girls that have found happiness and instruction within its walls. Now we are at last a Boys’ High School. Our silent corridors are tokens of the exodus of the girls, who are at present bewailing the inconveniences of the Technical School,  enduring a period of trial before they move on to the final consummation of their desires in Fitzherbert Street.”
