1st XI Hockey v Whanganui Collegiate - Friday 12 June

The 1st XI Hockey team's second pre-season match was played in Palmerston North on Friday night against Whanganui Collegiate.

The 1st XI found it hard to find any structure or rhythm in the first quarter with silly mistakes and unnecessarily risky passing, making scoring difficult.

The second quarter began with the score still locked at 0 - 0; however, PNBHS started to focus and periodically played the style of hockey that they are accustomed to.  A Zac Bunimasi sweep was deflected into the goal by a Collegiate player giving PNBHS a 1 – 0 advantage.  Shortly after, Hael Pritchard scored from some scrappy play.  Matthew Dellow finished the quarter scoring PNBHS's third goal of the match, giving them a comfortable 3–0 lead at half-time.

The third quarter resulted in no further goals with PNBHs not being able to convert numerous chances. The final quarter saw Malaki Masoe score from a well-executed penalty corner drag-flick before the full-time whistle.

The final score was 4–0 to the PNBHS 1st XI.  Blake Rhodes-Robinson and Hael Pritchard had outstanding games on attack.  This match provided PNBHS with plenty to work on as they head towards the start of the competition.
