2nd XV v Manukura 1st XV - Tuesday 23 June

The PNBHS 2nd XV played the Manukura 1st XV under the lights at the Arena as they continued the build up to their season. Manukura had won the local competition for a number of years and so another tough fixture was in the offing.

PNBHS started strongly, led by their defence that stunted the Manukura attack. They also pressured the Manukura set-piece and began to gain ascendency and this allowed them to dominate field position. Unfortunately inaccuracies meant they were unable to convert their chances and from an intercept, Manukura struck to take a 7-0 lead. The 2nd XV responded strongly and again took control of the game. They dominated possession and field position but were held at bay until just before half time when a quick switch of play from Jakob Rauhihi-Collis created space and Javahn Stevenson scored. Half time score 7-5.

The second half saw a raft of changes for the 2nd XV but no let up in the intensity and physicality. The forwards immediately got on top and began to make ground through strong carries. Their pressure was rewarded as Hunter Morrison scored from a close range pick and go to put the 2nd XV in front. They immediately attacked again and a good break from Simi Togoloa set them up in the 22 and again as the ball was shifted blind, Hunter Morrison crashed over again to complete the scoring.

Final score 17-7.

A much improved performance from the 2nd XV. The set-piece began to function and the forwards provided a good platform for the backs to attack off. This was a very positive step forward as they edge closer to their Super Eight campaign.
