2nd XV v Tauranga Boys' College - Saturday 12 September

The 2nd XV entertained Tauranga Boys' College in their last game of their Super Eight campaign knowing that a bonus point win would secure third place and a positive end to the season. With superb conditions as the game kicked off, an entertaining game was in the offing.

The team started well with good interchanges between the forwards saw holes made in the Tauranga defence. An attacking scrum was forced in the Tauranga 22 and the ball was shifted well to the outside and Devon Chapman dotted down to open the scoring. From the restart, the 2nd XV were back on the attack. A nice pass put Keanu Watson in a hole and when he was finally brought to ground, the ball was shifted wide for Tremaine Makoare to score. More pressure forced a Tauranga turnover in their 22 and a wide pass from Kodie Albert-Papuni was expertly finished by Simi Togoloa. Tauranga did respond with a score of their own before PNBHS reasserted their dominance with Charlie Justice scoring from a catch and drive to finish the half.

The second half started as the first had finished, with the PNBHS runners making inroads and the ball being moved smartly. From another well-worked catch and drive, the ball was worked into midfield for Tremaine Makoare who finished well. Quick hands then saw the ball moved to Simi Togoloa and some great footwork saw him beat his man and tip toe down the sideline for his second. From another lineout drive, a charge from Manu Latu got over the advantage line and Cody Borlase scored after a couple of pick n go’s. The 2nd XV kept the pressure on and after a period of sustained attack, Kodie Albert-Papuni scooted over to finish the game.

Final score was a 46-7 win.

This was a very good performance to secure third place in the 2020 2nd XV Super Eight campaign and the players can be very proud of their efforts throughout the year. The team has grown immensely and this was a fitting way to finish the season.
