The 3rd XI kicked off the 2020/2021 season with a 40 over game against Maw Haws. The 3rds won the toss and chose to bat first. Van Prenter and Sam Kennett made a steady start on a very slow outfield which was giving no value for shots. At the midway point the 3rds were 51-0. After drinks there was an attempt to accelerate which started well picking up 10 runs off the 21st over. However, a change of pace brought about the first wicket. One led to two which led to nine as the middle order collapsed to be 82-9 off 31 overs. The final stand by Saim Ahmed and Ethan Campbell added 28 as the final wicket fell for 110 in 35 overs. Van Prenter 34, Saim Ahmed 17.

The bowling effort started well with a wicket in the first over, a second fell shortly after and it was game on. Regular wickets fell, but early season inaccuracies with the ball were hurting. At 79-7 it was anyone’s game but Maw Haws were able to prevail getting home in the 21st over 7 down. Extras was their top scorer with 41, 27 wides and 6 no balls. Thomas Bell 4-20, Dan McDougall 2-25. A loss by 3 wickets.
