CRICKET REPORT: PNBHS 1ST XI VS United CC – 31/10/20

PNBHS were asked to bat first and the start was not promising – 2 down for 1 run in the 3rd over. A period of consolidation was provided, but the scoring was slow. At 137 for 5 in the 44th over, the batsmen tried to accelerate but a flurry of runs also led to a flurry of wickets and the 1st XI finished their 50 overs on a score of 171 for 9. Jonty Fleck made a comfortable 34 but the standout was Curtis Heaphy, who perished in the last over for 95.

Facing a strong United batting line-up in devastating form, the Boys’ High bowlers made a great start, snagging the top 2 by the 5th over. United consolidated, but as soon as they tried to force the issue, 2 more wickets fell. This stifled the scoring and the PNBHS spinners were able to race through some cheap overs. Unfortunately, a rain shower caused a delay, and, upon resumption, the bowlers struggled to find their rhythm with a wet ball. This meant that the last 5 overs before the final rain shower allowed United to take full toll and pass the required DLS target before the match was abandoned. A win to United by the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern method. Thomas Kirk knocked the top off with 2 for 21 and Jonty Fleck took 2 for 18.

The 1st XI effort with the ball and in the field was a real positive.
