Cricket Report – PNBHS 1st XI VS Scots College 1st XI – 50 over Match

Curtis Heaphy won the toss and decided to bat first, playing on the No 1 block for the first time this season. After the batsmen came terms with the slow outfield, they started to accumulate runs and settle in for the long haul. A 106-run 3rd wicket partnership between Jaiden Meyer and Curtis Heaphy set the team up well for good dash in the final overs, allowing PNBHS to score 217 for 5 from their 50. Meyer scored 61 and Heaphy 80.

Scots made a dashing start, having worked out that taking the aerial route took the slow outfield out of the equation. A number of dropped catches and missed runout opportunities exacerbated the situation (and the coaches’ frustration) and allowed the Scots’ top 4 to score the bulk of their runs. The bowlers, nevertheless, stuck to their collective task and managed to keep the scoring to a reasonable rate. At 151 for 4 in the 41st over, Scots looked likely, but the fielders then stepped up and started taking their chances. This allowed Boys’ High to take the next 6 wickets for 40 runs, keeping the opposition to 191 all out. Bayley Latter took 3 for 41 and Fred McVerry 3 for 24 from 10.

A win to PNBHS by 26 runs and (hopefully) many lessons learned.
