The second day of the St Paul's ANZAC Tournament saw two wins for the PNBHS 1st XI Hockey Team.

The match this morning was against St Paul's Collegiate.  This match was a scrappy affair, with both teams trying to gain an advantage on the scoreboard.  In the first half, both teams were evenly matched, with chances being created at both ends of the pitch.  Some frustration became evident as both teams pushed hard to be the first to score.  However, the match remained scoreless at the half time break.

St Paul's managed to score shortly after the half time break.  PNBHS started to combine well as the half progressed, resulting in a Blake Rhodes-Robinson equalizer.  In the dying minutes, Tom Bayley scored, giving PNBHS an edge as the clock ran out.  A penalty corner on full time was nullified with some resolute PNBHS defence led by Solomon Kaihe in goal.   This match ended in a hard-fought 2 – 1 win to the PNBHS 1st XI.

The afternoon match against St Kentigern College started in a similar vein to the morning's game.  It took a long time for PNBHS to get into the game, with plenty of chances to score being missed.  The scores remained locked at 0 – 0 at halftime.

The 1st XI gained some ascendancy in the second half, with Ben Havord scoring from a penalty corner to open the PNBHS account.  Connor Managh scored a well-worked deflection shortly after as the 1st XI started to hit their stride.  Zach Carline then scored the match's final goal, giving the PNBHS 1st XI a 3 – 0 win to finish the second day.

The 1st XI play Auckland Grammar School at 8.30 am tomorrow in their final match of the tournament.
