Year 13 Design and Visual Communication (Technology)

Elective Architectural Design

STEM subjects are an important part of the New Zealand Curriculum because they form the basis for a wide range of careers. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Design and Visual Communication is part of the Technology curriculum which teaches spatial and product designs using a broad range of modes and media.

All Year 13 students select their own sites for their own elective architectural projects. Currently, students are using scaled models to develop their architectural designs by incorporating a range of development strategies set in the Achievement Standard. Some students are advancing to the next stage of development using SketchUp Pro to finalise their designs.

Please visit the Design and Visual Communication Department tab in Stratus for more information about the subject. If you wish to find out more about STEM, please visit https://www.nzqa.govt.nz/maori-and-pasifika/pasifika/stem-it-up/
