A team of five students and one reserve headed over to Feilding on a cold winter’s night on the last day of June to compete in the Readers’ Cup.
It was the first time in two years that the school had had the opportunity to take part in this challenge. Last year’s event was one of the many causalities of the Covid virus.
The students were all well-prepared for the contest. The books had all been read and several quizzes undertaken to select the team to represent the school on the night.
After four rounds the team were in front position and the PNBHS had high hopes that this leading spot could be held until the end of the night. However, this was not to be and PNBHS ended up in fourth equal position with Palmerston North Girls’ High School, with both teams having 38.5 points.
The winning team St.Peter’s had 45 points, second Awatapu College 43 points and third St. Matthew’s Collegiate 42 points.
The team was: Jonathan Pinkney, Gray Lourie, Dylan Mark, Charlie Pedley, Garrick Otto and Ryan Fong (reserve)
