Cricket Report - Super 8 Day 3 - PNBHS 1st XI VS Hamilton Boys’ High School 1st XI - 03/02/22
Jaiden Meyer won the toss and promptly elected to bat. Scoring proved to be difficult as the Hamilton pace attack bowled well giving us scraps to live off. Despite the loss again of an early wicket, Sam Kennett and Jaiden Meyer set about building a score we could defend. At 59/2 the rebuilding process was taking place well until a series of poor decisions promptly put us on 85/6 after 31 overs. Jaiden and Jacob Duker upped the ante with a brisk partnership of 46, however good bowling from the opposition ate away at our patience forcing batsmen to play shots they shouldn’t and we were eventually all out in the 45th over for 151. Jaiden Meyer the backbone of the innings with 73.
To defend this total would require us to be at our best, and have a bit of luck. Hamilton went hard from the outset, punishing wayward bowling, and offering nothing. When presented with a sniff of a chance we were unable to take them. Hamilton were cruising nicely at 112/1, when the introduction of Matt Rowe breathed some life into the effort in the field as he took two quick wickets. Unfortunately, this was a false dawn and Hamilton managed to pass the score 3 down in the 37th over.
This means that we will be playing off for 3rd and 4th place against New Plymouth Boys’ High School today.
