At assembly this morning Daniel McDougall, Club Captain of Murray, was presented with the Andrews Cup for Tennis.  The cup for the inter-club Tennis competition was donated in 1934 by Old Boy Eskell ‘Buster’ Andrews.  Mr. Andrews won the New Zealand Junior Tennis Championships in 1921 and 1922 while a student.  He went on to win the New Zealand Championships before heading to Cambridge University in England to study Law.  He represented New Zealand at Davis Cup level.  In the first round of Wimbledon in 1928 Mr. Andrews was drawn against Olympic Gold medallist Frank Hunter, who he beat in five sets in one of the greatest upsets in Wimbledon history.  He won the South of England Championships the following year and went on to reach the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in doubles on a number of occasions, as well as competing in the United States National Championships, later to become the US Open, in singles.
