The Ross Irwin Memorial Essay award is a prestigious prize given to the best essayist of the school. There is a Juniors' prize and a Seniors' prize. All are welcome to enter.
The brief for the senior award for 2022 is as follows:
An essay of between 800 and 1000 words to be submitted by 9:00 a.m. on the first day of term 4. The essay can address any one of the following topics:

1.Modern morality is shaped by social media/the media.

2.Humanity is doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past.

3.The unbearable bleakness of a future New Zealand.

4. Can New Zealand afford political parties?

5. New Zealand is in a solid position to lead the world out of chaos.

6. Globalism: boon or blight?

7. Religious orders should pay tax like everybody else.
The brief for the junior award for 2022 is as follows:
An essay of between 300 and 500 words to be submitted by 9:00 a.m. on the first day of term 4. The essay can address any one of the following topics:

1. Why I am anti-vape. Is there anything good about vaping?

2. Social media CAN be a good thing.

3. Why are adults so obsessed with “screen time”? Adults are hypocritical in their attitude to teenagers and screen time.

4. Does school prepare us for real life?

Submissions are to be made via email either to Mr Siebert or Mr Benn.
