Join us for an enlightening session with members of our PNBHS whānau who have made considerable contributions to education and Māori development.
Presenters:
Naomi Manu (Rangitāne, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga). Naomi was Director of Māori Student Success at Massey University. She founded Pūhoro STEM(M) Academy, which provides mentorship and support to Māori students interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects.
Naomi was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2023 New Year honours list this year, for services to STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) education and Māori. She is a current parent of PNBHS.
Debbie Te Puni (Rangitāne o Manawatū) is the Chief Executive Officer of Rangitāne o Manawatū Settlement Trust. Debbie is known for her dedication to promoting Māori wellbeing and development, often collaborating with organisations like Te Puni Kōkiri, which is the government’s principal policy advisor on Māori affairs and others that support leadership programmes and initiatives that aim to empower Māori communities. Debbie is the parent of a PNBHS Old Boy and former Head Boy.
Peter Te Rangi (Rangitāne o Manawatū) is a notable educator with over 40 years in primary and bilingual education. He has significantly impacted the educational landscape in Palmerston North and the Manawatū region.
Peter is also a historian who has extensive knowledge about this region. He continues to mentor many educators, sharing his knowledge and experience. Peter is a PNBHS Old Boy.
Todd Taiepa (Tūhoe) is the Poutakawaenga Matua (Principal Māori Advisor) at Palmerston North City Council. In this role, he provides strategic advice on Māori issues and works to strengthen relationships between the council and Māori community.
Todd’s work involves facilitating consultations, advising on cultural protocols, and supporting various community projects aimed at enhancing the well-being of Māori residents. Todd is a current PNBHS parent.
Present will be our NZQA Facilitator, Truancy and Support Services Team, and Pouako/Pouāwhina Māori.
