Match Report - Game 9 v Royal College, Colombo
Royal College is a massive
state school boasting an incredible roll of 8900 boys on their spacious 12 acre
property. Again the weather was amazing but harsh at the same time. The day was
fine, very hot (low 30's) and insanely humid. These conditions have followed us
since the tour began and are beginning to take their toll. The team is
consuming copious amounts of water and there many mini drinks breaks.
The school got off to a poor start after Captain
Mason Hughes won the toss and elected to bat first. Boys' High was 21 for 3 off
11 overs as they were put under pressure by some high quality seam bowling. At
this stage Mason was joined at the wicket by Hugh Symes producing the only
partnership of substance in the entire innings as they put on 41 runs for the
fourth wicket. Mason scored 32 off 53 balls and Hugh scored 18 off 63
balls. From this point on wickets fell in clumps and the school was dismissed
for a disappointing 108 in the 42nd over. The only other batsman to score in
double figures was Braden Rowe with 11.
Jack Lord and Reuben Harris were able to snare
an early wicket each to send a few trembles through the Royal College dressing
room. However, a couple of healthy partnerships then followed and our
opposition worked their way back into a dominant position in the match. The
school's bowlers continued to toil and were rewarded with two quick wickets
again causing Royal College a few nervous moments as the score slipped to 93
for 5. Unfortunately it only took a couple of lusty shots to the boundary for
Royal to claim a comfortable 5 wicket victory. Reuben took 2 for 19 and Trey
Bidois grabbed 3 good catches.
