NZSS BOYS’ 1st XI CUP FINALS – GAME 3 VS OTAGO BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL

Batting first on an ageing pitch, the PNBHS openers made an outstanding start of 88 for the first wicket before falling in quick succession. This led to some middle order jitters before James Stratton started taking to the bowling with some support from the lower order. Unfortunately, a lot of batsmen got themselves out and the 1st XI fell short of completing their overs to be all out for 216. A solid total, but they left 20 runs out there. Thomas Walsh scored 28, James Stratton 47 and Tom Tremain 50.

History would suggest that the PNBHS bowling and fielding unit would defend this total easily and a wicket in the second over suggested it would be so. Unfortunately, the team produced a lacklustre effort, with wides, 4-balls and misfields being the order of the day. The team, nevertheless stuck to their task and good closing spells from Bryn Wilson and Jack Harris made the opposition sweat until they managed to pass the score in the 50th over with 7 wickets down. Finn Martin continued his rich vein with 3 for 38 from his 10 overs.

On Thursday,  the 1st XI take on Rosmini College on Fitzherbert Park.
