PNBHS NZCT Junior Cricket v Wellington College

Wellington College won the toss and chose to bat first.  Their openers got off to a fast start and were able to put on 73 for the first wicket.  The introduction of Michael Watkins and Josh Campbell slowed the runs and wickets started to fall.  Wellington College were able to maintain a healthy run rate despite a flurry of late wickets and a score of 174/9 was a very good one.  Josh Campbell 3-32, Michael Watkins 2-12 and Angus Lyver 2-39 were the chief wicket takers.

In reply, PNBHS were struggling at the start with early wickets falling.  Callum Kennett tried to hold the top order together, but when he fell for 23 PNBHS were perilously placed at 59/4.  This bought Curtis Heaphy and Jonty Fleck to the wicket and crucially they managed to put on 80 for the 5th wicket.  Curtis was more free in his stroke play whereas Jonty played an important supporting role.  Upon the loss of Jonty’s wicket, Curtis was able to guide PNBHS to 175/6.  A win by 4 wickets with 17 balls to spare.  Curtis Heaphy scored an impressive and match winning 88 not out.
