1ST XI CRICKET VS RATHKEALE COLLEGE

In the second qualifier of the NZSS Boys' 1st XI Cup, PNBHS hosted Rathkeale College at Manawaroa Park. The 1st XI lost the toss and the opposition elected to bat on a true wicket. The PNBHS opening bowlers were very generous in both length and line and this allowed Rathkeale to get a good start, progressing to 60 for 1 in 12 overs. Fortunately, the change bowlers were less accommodating and their miserliness led to a procession of wickets as the opposition collapsed to be 114 all out. Hugo Wakeling took 2 for 22, Bryn Wilson, 2 for 13, Rishabh De 2 for 9 and Thomas Kirk 3 for 34.

The PNBHS innings started at a good clip as the Rathkeale bowlers were equally generous allowing the 1st XI to reach 61 for 1 in the 10th over. A couple of wickets briefly slowed the run rate, but 114 was never enough as Boys' High reached 116 for 3 in the 23rd over. Craig Lawrence scored 25, Bryn Wilson 21 not out and Ruben Love 26 not out as PNBHS won the match by 7 wickets.

The team now progresses to the CD Quad tournament on 26 and 27 March to try to qualify for nationals.
