1st XI Cricket vs Palmerston CC - 01/12/18

Palmerston won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch that looked hard, dry and used. The PNBHS opening bowlers kept to good areas and the opposition were soon 3 down for a mere 14 runs. There followed a somewhat dubious umpiring decision which allowed Palmerston’s best batsman to avoid a “first baller” and continue, to top score with 37. The team took this in their stride, however and the miserly bowling was backed up by good fielding and catching. The opposition batmen were well reigned in and managed to limp to 151 all out 1 ball short of 50 overs. The bowlers shared the wickets around with Bryn Wilson taking 2 for 40, Thomas Kirk 2 for 32, Mr Davidson 2 for 22, Finn Martin 2 for 19 and Levi Woolston 2 for 17.

The 1stXI batsmen made a lively start, but after an early wicket a period of consolidation followed with a 92 run partnership between an out-of-sorts Rishabh De and Curtis Heaphy. This set the team up nicely and despite a flurry of wickets as PNBHS tried to improve their overall run-rate, the score was chased down in the 45thover to ensure a victory by 6 wickets. Bryn Wilson scored 23, Curtis Heaphy 35 and Rishabh De 50.

This leaves the team in a strong position to make the Premier 1 one-day semi-finals when they return from the Gillette Cup finals next week.
