PNBHS 1st XI vs Marist CC – 12/01/19 – Day 1 of 2
Marist won the toss and asked PNBHS to bat on a green seamer. The top order toiled hard and found it difficult to score. They persevered and batted time, but it did not become easier as the ball continued to nip around. The middle order followed suit and at 75 for 4 at lunch, the team was satisfied with the progress made. Unfortunately, wickets fell in rapid succession after lunch and the 1st XI was bowled out for 105 in 57 overs. Henry Deans top scored with 21, with only three other batsmen getting into double figures.
Boys’ High took to the field enthusiastically and the opening bowlers made it hard for the opposition to score. The pressure eventually told as 2 wickets fell with the score on 15. The change bowlers were less precise and allowed the subsequent batsmen to score more freely, having a number of convincing appeals turned down. 2 more wickets fell before a substantial partnership took Marist to 137 for 4 at the close of play on day 1. Thomas Kirk took 1 for 17, Josh West 1 for 6 and Levi Woolston and Charlie Lourie took 1 apiece.
