Match Report:  Cake League Selection XI v Junior 4th XI

The Cake League Selection XI won the toss and elected to bat in a Monrad Cup and forecast rain affected game.  With rain forecast for later in the day the decision was made to move the Junior Monrad Cup forward to the morning which meant a hasty change to the play for the day.  We decided to split play into two 10 over innings, one before the Monrad Cup started and the second afterward, assuming it wasn’t raining by then.

In their first 10 overs the Cake League Selection XI were the beneficiaries of 4 dropped catches to be well placed at 54 for 1.  The Junior 4th XI managed to get in 4 overs before the game was stopped for the Monrad Cup.

When play resumed at the conclusion of the Monrad Cup the Junior 4th XI managed to win the first half of the match leading by only 2 runs after their 10 overs.  However, regular wickets fell during both halves of their innings and they were restricted to 100 for 8 by the end of their 20 overs.  The Selection XI then continued from where they left off and with a well paced run chase managed to secure the win by 7 wickets.

The best performers in the Selection XI were: Marcus Dodd - 38 retired; Cavan Murphy - 30;  Aidan Brown 6 for 2; Finn Caske 4 for 1 and Charlie O’Hara 11 for 1.

The best performers in the Junior 4th XI were:  Locky Hooper – 25; Liam O’Connor 16 and Orlando Ratima 12;  Ehsan Muhammad 2 for 1.

Both teams are to complimented on their standard of play and sportsmanship.
